Anne of Green Gables
- Credits
- Adapted by Peter DeLaurier
- Synopsis:
- When aging brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert send to the orphanage in Nova Scotia for a boy to help them on the farm, they get more than they bargain for. Due to a mix-up, they are instead left with 11-year-old Anne Shirley. Over the course of six years, this romantic, hot-headed, and energetic girl wins their hearts and turns the stodgy, rural Canadian community into a bright world of "kindred spirits." This swift yet theatrical adaptation of the classic novel is an all-ages crowd-pleaser.

- Monologues for Anne:
(please choose 1 to memorize and be familiar with the other 2)- Oh, Mr. Cuthbert! It’s wonderful that I’m going to live with you and your sister and belong to you. I’ve never belonged to anybody—not really. I don’t suppose you ever were an orphan in an asylum. But it’s worse than anything you could imagine. Mrs. Spencer said it was wicked of me to talk like that. It’s so easy to be wicked without knowing it, isn’t it? There’s so little scope for the imagination in an asylum.
- Well, I’ll do my best. Gracious heavenly Father- that’s the way the ministers say it in church- Gracious heavenly Father, I thank Thee for the White Way of Delight and the Lake of Shining Waters and The Snow Queen. I really am extremely grateful for them. And that’s all the blessings I can think of just now to thank Thee for. As for the things I want, it would take a great deal of time to name them all so I will only mention the two most important. Please, please let me stay at Green Gables; and please let me be good looking when I grow up. I remain, Yours respectfully, Anne Shirley. There did I do all right?
- Oh, Mrs. Lynde, I am so extremely sorry. I have behaved terribly to you—and I’ve disgraced the dear friends, Matthew and Marilla, who have let me stay at Green Gables even though I am not a boy. It was very wicked of me to fly into a temper because you told me the truth. My hair is red, and I am freckled and skinny and ugly. What I said to you was true too, but I shouldn’t have said it. Oh, please, please, forgive me. If you refuse it will be a lifelong sorrow on a poor little orphan girl.
